Los Angeles – A New Jersey man has sued the Motion Picture
Association of America (MPAA) and local police, alleging that deadly force was
wrongly used during his arrest on the non-violent charge of camcording a movie
inside a theater, TorrentFreak reported.

Timothy Epifan, of Manville, New
Jersey, initially fled police who had attempted to arrest him onsite at a movie
theater after a tip from the MPAA.

The lawsuit states that Epifan stopped
running after about 20 seconds, but that as he was standing still, an unmarked
police car ran into him and dragged his body ten feet.

"Epifan sustained
severe leg fractures, has undergone multiple surgeries, incurred hundreds of
thousands in medical bills and now walks with a cane," reads the
complaint.

"Using a police motor vehicle to apprehend a suspect who is
fleeing on foot by physically striking the suspect to disable and arrest the
suspect constitutes deadly force."

Epifan pleaded guilty to the camcording
charges, and was sentenced to a year in jail and three years probation.
