San Francisco – Japanese games publisher DeNA announced on
Tuesday that it will acquire San Francisco-based mobile game publisher ngmoco,
for up to $400 million in cash and securities.

Founded in 2008, ngmoco’s games
have to date been downloaded more than 60 million times for Apple iOS devices,
while its Plus+ social network counts over 13.5 million registered users.

The
company plans to release Android-based games and services later this year.

DeNA
said that ngmoco will help market its Mobage service and platform for mobile
games.

Ngmoco has raised nearly $40 million in venture capital, from investors
including Norwest Venture Partners, Maples Investments, iFund, Kleiner Perkins
Caufield & Byers, Institutional Venture Partners and Google Ventures.
