Color Labs Inc. is inviting fans backstage to the season finale of Saturday Night Live this weekend, when the host will be Mick Jagger and the musical guests will be Jagger, Arcade Fire, Foo Fighters and Jeff Beck. While in-person attendance isn’t possible, a partnership between the Color app, the show and Verizon Wireless will provide a personal, live look at the goings-on.

The event makes promotional sense for Verizon Wireless, because it offers Color to its customers, in part to showcase the capabilities of its 4G LTE network and devices. Color is a free app for Android and iPhone that lets users instantly capture and share live video streams and photos with friends on Facebook.

AFacebook account is required to use Color. Additionally, those interested in the May 19 event must become a Facebook fan of Verizon Wireless or Saturday Night Live and have the Color app on their device. They then will receive notifications alerting them to the live experience.

Bill Nguyen, co-founder and CEO of Color Labs, expressed his excitement on the company blog. He recalls being a kid and sneaking a portable TV into his room to watch the post-bedtime Saturday Night Live. “Looking back, being a fan of SNL and a part of something LIVE brought me closer to my friends,” he wrote, adding that being backstage as the show is prepared and broadcast is the culmination of a childhood dream.
