Amazon to Acquire Digital Comic Book Store comiXology

comixologyTechCrunch reports that Amazon has announced that it will acquire comiXology, a service that provides digital versions of comics from Marvel, DC, and many others. Today, comiXology provides more than 50,000 comics for sale. In 2013, the company introduced a self-publishing stand for comics that lets comic creators upload and sell their own works, which is expected to fit well with Amazon’s self-publishing platform for books. Last year, the comiXology iOS app was one of the App Store’s top performers, with regard to gross sales. It was one of just two non-games to reach Apple’s Top 20 grossing apps for 2013.  Read More
