Amazon CEO Reveals Plans to Deliver Orders with Flying Drones

amazonprimeairAmazon CEO Jeff Bezos on Sunday night revealed a futuristic plan for his company to deliver orders to customers within 30 minutes using autonomous flying drones. In an interview on CBS news program “60 Minutes,” Bezos said the drones — called octocoptors — could be delivering packages weighing up to five pounds to customers within 10 miles of the company’s 96 U.S. fulfillment centers by 2018. The plan would require approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). “I know this looks like science fiction. It’s not,” said Bezos. “The hard part here is putting in all the redundancy, all the reliability, all the systems you need to say `Look, this thing can’t land on somebody’s head while they’re walking around their neighborhood’… It will work and it will happen, and it’s going to be a lot of fun.” Read more
