Reuters: Samsung to Make $1.7 Billion Investment in Kunshan Plant, Xinhua Reports

Reuters reports that South Korean electronics leader Samsung, intends to spend $1.7 billion in increasing and building its operations in Kunshan, a fast-growing manufacturing hub west of Shanghai. Reuters cited sources from the Kunshan Municipal Government that this investment is mainly going to be used to start new workshops, buy machines and devices as well as build research institutes run by Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co., a chip carrier related project. This expansion comes as Samsung wants to apply more control over its vast manufacturing network, which includes 250 supplier factories in China.  Read more
