Google has a strong preference for people using the same names online as they do in the physical world, even making it part of the policy for having a Google+ account. The company is now taking that a step further by displaying the user’s Google+ profile name and photo next to each review posted on Google Play.
People who submit reviews to YouTube are invited to log in using their Google+ profile, but it’s not a requirement. Google Play does not make this optional.
The move makes perfect sense for Google, since it helps collect better and more comprehensive data on its users. Consumers’ opinions are mixed. Many think tying reviews to a specific Google+ profile will increase their quality and trustworthyness, while many others contend it is a little creepy and will discourage them from participating.
