Sports-dedicated mobile social network fanatix today launched in the U.S., an expansion from its U.K. roots made possible by an additional $1 million investment from angels.
The company is a year old and reports a small but devoted, highly targeted base of 35,000 daily active users. According to fanatix, its average user accesses the free app more than five times every day, a figure that doubles for users who opt to register.
Users get personalized and sharable updates, tweets, video clips, live scores and statistics, in addition to group chat rooms the app calls “huddles.”
Will Muirhead, founder and CEO of fanatix, said the timing of the expansion was deliberate, due to the World Series, the NFL at the midseason mark, the beginning of the 2012-13 NBA season and the upcoming college football bowl season.
