Yahoo has found something to laugh about. It announced that a new Yahoo Comedy Channel will kick off Feb. 23 with an exclusive and free live broadcast of the webcast special CrazyStupidPolitics: Bill Maher Live from Silicon Valley. Two other well-known names in comedy who will be creating for the new channel are Saturday Night Live lead writer Mike O’Brien and Seth Morris (No Strings Attached, I Love You Man).

“I’m excited to be doing something new in bringing a live stand up show to a web giant like Yahoo,” Maher (pictured) said in a statement. “It is my goal to make people say “Oh no he di’nt” in every medium on earth.ˇ

The core of the channel will be exclusive short form videos, licensed video content from current sponsors, Yahoo original programming, and content from production partners including Funny or Die, Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video, Ben Silverman’s Electus, David Morgasen,  Principato-Young and more. As with other Yahoo destinations, Yahoo Comedy Channel also will be integrated throughout the company’s offerings, for example by drawing relevant content from Yahoo Studios’ Odd News and having some of its own content hosted on Yahoo Screen. Continuing the corporate synergies, marketers will be able to buy ad spots across the entire slate of shows and align themselves with the channel in other ways.

Some of the specific programs that will appear on the Yahoo Comedy Channel are: Funny Or Die Presents First Dates with Toby Harris (Funny Or Die), a series starring Seth Morris as a Los Angeles resident doing a poor job of navigating the unpredictable dating seas; 7 Minutes in Heaven (Broadway Video), in which Mike O’Brien invites celebrities into his closet for an intimate conversation; Sketchy (Principato Young/Electus), a weekly video series of topical comedy shorts written and directed by and starring Principato-Young talent like Ed Helms, Justin Long, Anthony Anderson, Rob Corddry, Rob Riggle, Rachel Harris, Rob Huebel and Paul Scheer; and Hackerazzi (David Morgasen), spoofs and parodies created using a combination of live action and digital techniques.

“We are focusing on fresh, original voices like Bill and our other original programs with the Yahoo Comedy Channel to continue to provide our consumers and advertisers with the best premium content on the Web,ˇ said Erin McPherson, vice president and head of Video at Yahoo. “The Yahoo Comedy Channel continues to build our leadership position and show our commitment to premium video content.ˇ
