Lanham, Md. – Vocus, a developer of web-based marketing and
PR software, said it has acquired San Francisco Engine 140, a developer of
software designed to help businesses build their brands on Twitter.

Financial
terms of the deal were not disclosed.

As part of the acquisition, Engine 140
co-founders You Mon Tsang and Dan Gartung — who also previously co-founded
business intelligence software Biz360 — will join Vocus.

Tsang will become senior
vice president of products, in the company’s Lanham office, with Gartung
joining the company’s development team in San Francisco.

"The Engine 140
technology will be incorporated into our existing social media product to help
our customers more easily engage and build influence on Twitter," said
Rick Rudman, the president and CEO of Vocus.

Engine 140’s technology is
designed to identify industry- or topic-specific influencers, then recommend
what, when and with whom to tweet in an effort to best engage them.
