Google Expands Print Advertising Program with Times, Others

New York - After testing the program for several months, Google said on Wednesday that it has expanded the size and scope of its print advertising initiative.

After initially launching in November with 50 newspapers, Google said that the program now includes more than 225 papers with a combined circulation of nearly 30 million.

Participating newspaper publishers include E.W. Scripps, Hearst Newspapers, Gannett, The New York Times, Tribune Publishing and The Washington Post, among others.

Under the Google Print Ads program, advertisers and agencies identify target newspapers, then enter a bid for the available ad space and upload an ad. Newspaper publishers then view the bids, and either approve or reject them, with an option to provide direct feedback to the advertisers.

Many of the advertisers are either too small to normally consider advertising in a large newspaper or hadn't tried print advertising because their business was largely online.
