JumpTV Adds International TV Channels to Joost Streaming TV Service

Toronto, Canada - JumpTV, an Internet TV network featuring international news and entertainment channels targeted at expatriates, announced that it has signed an agreement to add its programming to Joost, the streaming TV service launched by the creators of Kazaa and Skype. Toronto-based JumpTV offers consumers a selection of 270 channels from 70 countries on a subscription basis. The company will initially offer free Spanish-language TV channels from Chile, Colombia and Peru, as well as an Arabic-language comedy channel on Joost.

Joost really seems to have a lot of momentum, and may prove to be the early leader in Internet TV. They seem to actually understand that you need to *pay* for content. (What a concept!) The real shift will come when TV advertising comes full-throttle to the web. (This will require some new tchnology, as Shelly Palmer explains.) I don't consider YouTube to be a serious replacement TV -- both due to the content, and due to the fact that their business is based on piracy. (That will not survive.) Though, the BBC deal may indicate they are realizing that. - Nicole
