Santa Monica, Calif. - Universal Music Group's Interscope Records announced on Thursday an agreement with director James Cameron, to use new digital technology co-developed by Cameron to produce 3D music videos, concerts, commercials and stage musicals.

The venture will shoot 3D content using the Fusion digital stereo camera system developed by Cameron and Vincent Pace, first utilized by Interscope for a Gwen Stefani music video last year.

"When I saw what James Cameron was doing with his dedication and wizardry to the 3D platform, it seemed like the perfect combination for us to do some groundbreaking work," said Interscope Geffen A&M Records chairman Jimmy Iovine.

The first concert shot using the technology is expected to be released theatrically within six months.

The venture will also produce 3D commercials, to be shown before concert films in a circuit of 600-1,000 theaters that will regularly screen the events, and offer music artist-designed 3D glasses that viewers can take home with them.
