Carl Icahn Invests $50 Million in Mobile Content Distributor Motricity

Durham, N.C. - Billionaire investor Carl Icahn has invested $50 million in Motricity, a North Carolina-based provider of mobile content delivery technology, the company disclosed on Tuesday.

Motricity said that its customer base has quadrupled over the last year.

Some if its wireless operators and media and entertainment company customers now include Cingular, Alltel, Sprint, Tracfone, MTV, BET, NBC, Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, Turner and several others.

"This investment bolsters our balance sheet and positions us to continue to aggressively grow the business and consolidate the industry," said Ryan Wuerch, Motricity chairman and CEO, commenting on the deal with Icahn.
