Dulles, Va. - AOL announced on Friday that it has named Napster as the exclusive music subscription service provider for its AOL Music site, replacing AOL Music Now, which claimed 350,000 paid subscribers.

The companies will work to migrate existing subscribers to the Napster service, which will promoted throughout AOL's free music site. Napster charges $9.95 per month for its basic subscription service, and $14.95 for a version that allows unlimited downloads to portable players -- excluding the iPod.

"Napster's new relationship with AOL provides us with an excellent opportunity to aggressively grow subscribers through deep integration with one of the most visited music destinations on the Web," said Chris Gorog, Napster's chairman and CEO. "This transaction firmly positions Napster to be the unequivocal global leader in the premium music subscription sector and the number two overall in digital music revenue."
