New York - SpiralFrog, an advertising-supported free music download service, announced on Tuesday that it has licensed major label Universal Music Group's catalog for inclusion on its service in the U.S. and Canada. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. New York-based SpiralFrog plans to launch beta testing for its service, which will also include music videos, in late 2006. The service will feature digital rights management technology to help prevent piracy of downloaded files, although the company did not name a technology partner. SpiralFrog told CNET News.com that it has raised more than $10 million in initial funding, but did not disclose the names of its investors.
